Prehistoric archelon
Around the time this stamp was printed, the Laird
of Staffa produced stamps for visitors to the island
to use for posting mail back to the mainland, and
he would pay the postage for it to be sent on from
there. However, I don t know if this is in fact one
of those "local" stamps. Staffa came into the care
of the National Trust for Scotland in 1986, a gift
from then-owner John Elliott, Jr., and the island
was designated a National Nature Reserve in 2001
